Initiated by her observation of shadows reflected on the ground, the artist spent many months experimenting with a method to express objects in two dimensions on canvas. The object becomes a representation that is its own and the canvas carries an interpretation by painting of the object, especially in the case of a living object or perishable for example, fruit or humans. The style that Alexa Meade paints has an ephemeral quality, the only thing that remains of Alexa Meade's art is her photographs. Since the painting and photographic techniques are coordinated so closely it creates an illusion of trompe l'oeil, in which the illusion of three dimensions is only visible at certain locations, like the area around the eyes or hair. Meade will sometimes integrate her painting into the surrounding three-dimensional environment and allows the model to be a part of the world of their own. The lines between performance, photography, installation and painting are thus dissolved.
